The Sword Conservatory (TSC) is offering youth scholarships for the 2024-25 school year.
Scholarship Description
The scholarship includes 12 months of class fees. TSC will pay the Town of Holly Springs the full fee each month.
The scholarship includes equipment needed for class. TSC will provide used equipment when available or purchase new equipment. Student must return provided equipment when they complete or end their training.
Fencing through the Ages. Fencing jacket, fencing mask, fencing weapons (saber initially and foil/epee if the student continues after saber training is complete), fencing glove, gloves (for historic), and bag.
Medieval Age 8+ or 15+. Fencing mask and gloves. Student will use class weapons for training.
Scholarship students may choose one class to be covered by their scholarship:
Medieval Age 8+
Medieval Age 15+
Fencing through the Ages
A student may switch between a Medieval class and Fencing through the Ages one time during their scholarship tenure. They must request permission to switch classes and approval will be contingent upon space availability. If the student requests to return to their previous class after trying the new class, approval will be contingent upon space availability.
The scholarship may be renewed if the recipient wants to continue training after the first year and still meets scholarship eligibility requirements.
Student Eligibility
Attending 6th grade to 12th grade (2024-25 School year) at a public, charter, private, or home school located in North Carolina.
Age 11 to 18. Student may turn 19 during 12th Grade.
Preference will be given to students who are Holly Springs residents. (A resident is defined as a person living inside the municipal Town of Holly Springs limits who pays a Town water bill or taxes. A Holly Springs water bill will serve as proof of residency.)
Financial eligibility: Family meets the free or reduced school lunch program income requirements (See chart below). The following income documentation will be accepted.
Letter of recommendation from a County, State or Federal agency that qualifies the applicant for financial assistance. The letter must be issued within the current fiscal year.
Letter from the applicant’s school stating that (s)he qualifies for the free school lunch program. The letter must be issued within the current school year and should contain the child’s home address.
If letters of qualifying economic assistance are not available, a family may provide a copy of the applicant family’s most recent U.S. Internal Revenue Service Tax Return form (Social Security number blacked out).
2024 Scholarship Award Process
Applications Accepted online: July 22nd through August 16th.
Scholarship Award: By August 30th.
Classes Begin: September 7th or 8th depending on which class student selects.
